Bariatric Friendly Christmas Recipes
As a weight loss surgery patient, you should know that the Holidays can be hell on earth when it comes to eating and parties. And during this holiday season, it is never easy to keep yourself away from delicious Christmas dishes that are always served, especially if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle, or even worse if you have just had gastric sleeve surgery or gastric bypass surgery over the holiday periods. The parties, the dinners, and the snacks make following the healthy low carb and sugar diet provided to you by your surgeon very difficult. That said, however, if you make a plan and choose and prepare what you can eat, you will enjoy and have your meals, enjoy your family and friends and have a wonderful holiday in moderation, and most likely will not gain weight and even may lose weight during the holiday period.
The following are suggested bariatric friendly Christmas recipes we provide to help get you through the holiday season:
Chickpeas Christmas Hummus Dip
Ingredients:
»2 cans of chickpeas, rinsed
»1clove garlic, smashed and peeled
» ½ cup virgin olive oil
» ½ cup sesame oil
» 2 fresh lemon, juiced
» 1 tablespoon Tahini
» Salt and pepper
In a food processor. Chop garlic until minced. Add chickpeas, lemon juice, olive oil, sesame oil, tahini, salt and pepper. Process until well combined. If hummus is too thick, add 1 or 2 tbsp. of water as needed.
Serve with fresh veggies.
Cauliflower Cheese Soup
Ingredients:
» 1 potato, peeled and chopped
» 1 medium cauliflower, chopped
» 2 cloves garlic, chopped
» 900 ml low-fat milk
» 175g grated low-fat cheese
» Salt, pepper, and nutmeg
Place the cauliflower, potato, garlic, and milk in a large pan and on low heat. Simmer about 10-12 minutes. Add cheese, salt pepper, and nutmeg. Process until smooth using a stick blender. Serve hot.
Seared Salmon with Cucumber and Tomato Salad
Ingredients:
» One 6-ounce cup Greek yogurt
» 1 tsp Garden Gourmet dill
» One medium cucumber peeled as long ribbons
» 1 cup mini tomatoes, cut in half
» 6-ounce pieces of salmon
Blend the yogurt with the dill and season to taste with salt and pepper and toss cucumber ribbons and tomatoes with the yogurt mixture. Place the salmon already seasoned with salt and pepper in a pan non-skin down for 3 minutes, turn and cook skin for another 4 minutes. Place the salad on a plate, top with salmon.
Low-Sugar Cherry Chocolate Ice Cream
Ingredients
» 2 cups cherries, pits removed
» ½ banana
» ½ cup almond milk
» 3 tablespoon chocolate chips
Freeze the cherries and banana for 3 hours. Pour the almond milk into ice cube trays and freeze. Place all the frozen ingredients in a food processor, and process until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips and enjoy your dessert!
Christmas gathering often involve drinks and food and this obviously can be a challenge for Weight Loss Surgery patients.
